Romance Novels 101

I’m really excited to bring a classroom-inspired writing series to the Crescent Crown Blog! We’ll cover some major genres in this installment so you can learn, read and get inspired if it’s your desired genre!

First up, the Romance Novel. I wanted to start with a classic and a genre that I’m just starting to get more in to. I picked up my first Nora Roberts book a few years ago and was amazed at how much I loved it. I think that we often associate Romance books as filled with sex and no plot, an escape for housewives living dull lives, but I am happy to stop that generalization right here!

What Are Romance Novels?

Romance Novels are defined as such novels that have a central love story and an emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending

Big Players in Romance

  • Nora Roberts - I started with her Gallaghers of Ardmore trilogy, but she has a million to choose from
  • Nicholas Sparks - He’s a household name, you should read at least one of his books, my favorite is still The Last Song (don’t judge it based on the movie)
  • Jude Deveraux
  • Julie Garwood
  • Judith McNaught

As I said, I’m a beginner in the romance genre, so while I have not read books by Jude, Julie or Judith, Google says these three J ladies are great!
